Quality Manager

Role Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the facility’s Food Safety and Quality programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining GFSI certification, and driving continuous improvement in product quality and food safety systems.
This role leads the site’s Food Safety & Quality Management System (FSQMS) and serves as the subject matter expert for HACCP, FSMA, and GFSI standards. The Quality Manager partners closely with production, operations, sanitation, and leadership teams to maintain audit readiness, strengthen preventive controls, and foster a culture of food safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Food Safety Systems Leader: Own and strengthen the site’s Food Safety & Quality Management System.
Lead the site’s FSQMS, serving as HACCP Team Leader and SQF Practitioner (if certified).
Develop, validate, and continuously improve HACCP and Preventive Controls programs.
Ensure compliance across GMPs, allergen control, sanitation, environmental monitoring, labeling, and documentation standards.
Regulatory & Audit Authority: Maintain inspection readiness and certification excellence.
Ensure compliance with FDA, FSMA, GFSI, and customer requirements.
Lead internal, customer, and third-party audits (SQF, BRC, AIB) and drive CAPAs to closure.
Maintain continuous inspection readiness and lead regulatory responses and system updates as standards evolve.
Quality & Operational Excellence Champion: Protect product integrity and drive measurable improvement.
Oversee raw material, in-process, and finished goods quality programs, including environmental monitoring and sanitation verification.
Lead product investigations, holds, root cause analysis, and disposition decisions.
Monitor and trend KPIs (audit scores, complaints, non-conformances, CAPA effectiveness) and drive data-based continuous improvement initiatives.
Allergen & Traceability Owner: Safeguard labeling accuracy and recall readiness.
Manage allergen control, label compliance, and traceability systems.
Lead mock recalls and participate in crisis management and emergency preparedness programs.
Sanitation & Vendor Oversight Leader: Ensure validated and controlled sanitation systems.
Oversee sanitation programs and manage QA-related vendors and contracted services.
Ensure verification and validation of sanitation effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
Leadership & Strategic Partner: Build capability and align quality with business performance.
Lead, coach, and develop QA and sanitation teams while fostering a culture of accountability and food safety ownership.
Develop and manage departmental budgets, identify efficiency opportunities, and advise leadership on quality system performance and risk exposure.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Progressive experience in food manufacturing quality and food safety.
Experience leading or supervising quality teams in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of HACCP, FSMA Preventive Controls, GMPs, and GFSI standards (SQF, BRC, or similar).
Experience supporting regulatory and third-party audits.
Working knowledge of sanitation, environmental monitoring, and allergen control programs.
Preferred
PCQI Certification.
HACCP Certification.
SQF Practitioner Certification.
Experience in high-mix or allergen-controlled manufacturing environments.
