Role Summary
The Project Engineer plays a critical role in driving capital projects, process improvements, and automation initiatives within our Nashville manufacturing facility. This position combines technical engineering expertise with project management and operational collaboration to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production systems.
This role is responsible for leading projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with production and business objectives. In a growth-focused environment, the Project Engineer will not only execute projects but also help build scalable, standardized engineering processes that support long-term expansion.
Success in this role requires strong technical capability, structured project leadership, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, quality, R&D, and external partners.
Responsibilities
Project Governance & Execution Leader: Drive disciplined execution across the full project lifecycle.
Own and maintain the integrated master schedule across suppliers and site activities.
Lead structured weekly reviews with clear actions, accountability, and deadlines.
Actively manage RAID logs with defined mitigation plans.
Control budget, change orders, and purchase commitments.
Deliver concise executive dashboards and status updates.
Partner with the Engineering Director to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
Multi-Supplier & Integration Authority: Ensure seamless OEM coordination and technical alignment.
Coordinate processing, packaging, utilities, and automation suppliers.
Align technical interfaces and site integration requirements.
Drive closure of technical gaps and documentation deliverables.
Ensure timely release of layouts, utility matrices, drawings, and manuals.
Escalate critical path risks with solution-oriented recommendations.
Installation, Commissioning & Startup Leader: Execute structured implementation in a live site environment.
Support brownfield installation and system integration.
Lead FAT/SAT readiness and execution support.
Manage punch lists through disciplined closure.
Support mechanical completion, commissioning, and performance validation.
Track startup performance and ramp-up milestones.
Operations Readiness & Handover Owner: Enable sustainable operational transition.
Lead structured project-to-operations handover.
Ensure SOPs, PM programs, and spare parts readiness pre-startup.
Coordinate operations and maintenance training.
Support safety reviews and readiness assessments.
Risk & Compliance Steward: Protect timeline, safety, and regulatory integrity.
Proactively identify and mitigate schedule and technical risks.
Maintain a live risk register with contingency planning.
Ensure compliance with site safety, GMP, and food safety standards.
Support root cause analysis during early stabilization.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent manufacturing engineering experience).
3+ years of manufacturing project engineering experience, preferably in food, beverage, or CPG environments.
Proven success managing capital projects, automation integration, and process improvements in production settings.
Strong knowledge of PLCs, control systems, and industrial automation; integration vendor experience preferred.
Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), project management tools, and Microsoft Office.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities and perform in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
Willingness to support overtime, production start-ups, and emergency troubleshooting as needed.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
Lean or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification.
Experience with food safety and quality systems (GMP, HACCP, SQF).
Experience in project cost estimation, budgeting, and contract management.
Knowledge of OSHA and industrial safety best practices.
